Light Ochre is among the artist’s most valuable colors and with it as a basis you can make the most exquisite combinations. Light Ochre, however, has a property worth mentioning here. If it is mixed with white, it gives a light yellow tone which is gradually reduced the more you touch with the brush. This phenomenon is called “tired” color. Therefore, it is important with this color to quickly find the right hue.

Light Ochre colour contains the pigment (PY42) FeOOH which is also called hydrated yellow iron oxide. The substance is available both as a natural organic pigment and as a synthetic inorganic. Ours is synthetic which is also cleaner.

There are large deposits of natural ocher in the world. Natural ocher is found in many shades from yellow to orange, to both red and brown. How dark or how light it is most often depends on the hematite (rust) content, and in addition, the color is manipulated by burning. Ocher has been used in painting and art making for a long time. It has been used in different cultures and civilizations on several continents, which did not necessarily influence each other many thousands of years ago. Since ocher was often at hand and was perfect for art, it is also believed to be the oldest pigment used by humans. With 100% certainty, it has been used by humans 300,000 years ago.

This oil paint can and must be mixed with oil paints from other manufacturers. The same goes for paint. Since this is such a chemically pure and simple product without mysterious fillers, it must also be mixed with your own favorite paint whether it is dammar and linseed oil, stand oil, black oil with litharge, Liquin ™, Oil gel ™ Maroger, lavender spike oil etc. For good control over consistency and detail work, we recommend our own paint. If you use solvents to clean brushes outdoors or in a ventilated room, Gamsol ™, turpentine, Terpenoid ™ Alcohol and ethanol, etc can be used. If, on the other hand, you do not like solvents, you can use special cleansing soap or liquid brown soap for the same purpose.
